2011.11.25 – Kherson CCI took part in regulare session of The Dnieper Basin Council
On 25 of November 2011 in Dnepropetrovsk took place the meeting of the Dnieper Basin Council, attended by the deputy chief of State Agency on Water Sources of Ukraine, representatives of Dnieper Basin Water Sources Administration, regional Water Sources administrations and Committee on Environmental Protection of Ukrainian regions and Kyiv, state sanitary-epidemiologic stations, water consumers, scientific and public organizations, Kherson Chamber of Commerce & Industry.
The chief of The Basin Council and Deputy chairman of Poltava Regional State Administration Mr Vladimir Zamykoula held the meeting. Participants discussed the problems of administration improvement for environmental protection and efficient usage of water by implementation of integrated water management on the basin principles, planning the management of river basin and subbasins, cooperation of water-resources organizations which work under cognizance of the Dnieper Basin Water Sources Administration.


Speakers paid a special attention to organization of hydrographic zoning of Dnieper basin’s territory; realization of Dnieper Basin Strategic Action Program in order to reduce pollution with persistent toxic substances within the UNDP-GEF project, taking into account the development of geoinformation system (GIS) of Dnieper basin’s subbasins and improvement of regulatory and legal framework of river basin management in accordance with the conclusions of International Ecological Forum “Clean city. Clean river. Clean planet”. Speakers determined the priority tasks in solution of the problems concerning the ecological sanitation of Dnieper. It is an important component in formation and realization of environmental policy in Ukraine in the way of its sustainable development.
In order to improve the work efficiency of The Basin Council there were established scientific and technical sections in the next areas: studying the problems of the River Dnieper, its water storage and water meadow basins; development of River Basin Management Plan elements in terms of subbasins; improvement of regulatory and legal framework of river basin administration; implementation of geoinformation technologies in river basin management system; ecological cooperation of science, authority and community.
The conclusions considering the progress of accomplishment of immediate actions in the ecological sanitation of the River Dnieper water basin and the working data in determined areas will be presented at a regular meeting of The Dnieper Basin Council in September of the following year.
