2010.05.22 – Europe Days in Kherson
Kherson grandly celebrated Europe Days on Saturday, May, 22, 2010. The delegation
of diplomatic corps representatives of EU countries in Ukraine headed by the
Head of a Diplomatic Mission of EU in Ukraine, the Ambassador Mr. Jose Manuel
Pintu Teixeira.
The EU informational center was open in the morning in Kherson State University. As Mr.Jose Manuel Pintu Teixeira said, it had been already the 11th center in Ukraine. The main task of such centers is to give all the necessary information to students and other city inhabitants which are interested in matters connected with the European Union.
After the center had been open, the discussions between student's youth and
the representatives of European countries took place in Kherson State University
and Kherson National Technical University. The educational problems, matters
connected with Euro, a complicated situation in Greece – young people were
interested in all this issues. The Ambassador of Finland Mr. Krister Mikkelson
and the Ambassador of Hungary in Ukraine shared the experience of their countries'
EU integration, and the Ambassador of Germany Mr. Hans-Juergen Haymzyut and
the Ambassador of France in Ukraine Mr. Jacques Faure told about the creation
of European Union.
The opening of solemn ceremony of Europe Days celebration in Kherson took place near the square of “Juvileyniy” Hall. The head of Kherson Regional State Administration, Mr. Anatoliy Grytsenko and the Head of a Diplomatic Mission of EU in Ukraine, Mr. Jose Manuel Pintu Teixeira took place in this event. Mr. Jose Manuel Pintu Teixeira mentioned that the celebration of Europe Days in Ukraine is steadily growing from year to year, which is a pleasant matter, and Kherson as a city represents itself like a small model of EU.
Guests and participants of celebration also had an opportunity to watch a
video message of the Higher Representative of EU of the common foreign policy
and the security policy, Baroness Katrine Ashton, who congratulated Ukrainians
with the European holiday and expressed her hope that UE and Ukraine would
sign up an Agreement about Association, which will give Ukraine a number of
economical and political advantages.
A small European township also worked at the square, where Kherson inhabitants had an opportunity to get acquainted with the culture and traditions of EU countries, as well as to listen to the language school lesson or to teach the national dance.
Diplomatic guests of Kherson and Kherson City Major Mr. Vladimir Saldo tool part in the public debates, and also visited Ekaterininsky Cathedral and the Botanical Garden, where they became acquainted with the model of Kherson fortress.
