On July, 12 there was held a meeting with representatives of the village community and the members of Sheep breeders' Union in Podsteponoye village (Tsyurupynsk district). During the meeting there was a discussion concerning the possibility of usage of local ranchland area of 500 hectares for its intended purposes.

The sheep breeders worry that the pasture land where the local residents have always grazed their sheep may be afforested. They consider that such decision of region authority is inadmissible because it doesn't facilitate the development of stock-breeding, moreover, it will also bring to naught today's remain of their small animal husbandry.

Local residents have grazed here a great number of cattle from of old. 15-20 years ago there were more than 2 000 sheep in the village, but nowadays their number does not exceed 200.

The commune is going to revive sheep breeding in the village and have already applied to regional government for assistance in settlement of land disputes. The Sheep breeders' Union in Podsteponoye village had decided to join the “Golden Fleece of Tavria” movement and to start the development of a pilot project to revive sheep farming in Tsyurupynsk region. A cooperation agreement on this matter was signed between the Union and the Kherson CCI.
