2014.06.12 – New opportunities for the development of renewable energy

According to the experts, the total economic and research potential of renewable and alternative energy sources in Ukraine is about 454.4 TWh or 59.2 million tons of reference fuel per year. As for the percentage of renewable energy in the total energy balance, according to preliminary data from the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine and the National Commission, providing state regulation in the energy sector (2013 energy balance data will be published in the fourth quarter of 2014), the share of renewable energy sources (RES) in the structure of the total electric energy production made in 2013 7.6%. During 2012, the share of RES in the structure of total final consumption amounted to 3.8%.

Since 2010, 97% of the facilities newly introduced to the renewable energy sector have been accounting for wind and solar energy. Power of wind energy facilities increased from 76 MW to 480 MW, power of solar energy facilities – from 2.5 MW to 807 MW.

For reference, the share of alternative energy in Germany accounted last year for 23% of the national electricity production, while 8% were contributed by wind power plants, and 5% by solar energy. Last year in Bavaria, about 200 thousand customers (almost one in ten) were using solar panels, due to which they were able to reduce their energy costs or even to earn by delivering electricity to the national grid. The growth in alternative energy output allowed Germany to reduce the consumption of expensive natural gas.

Today, for various reasons, the task of increasing the share of renewable energy in the total power balance has faced Ukraine. According to the director of the Department for Development of Renewable Energy of the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine Mr. Igor Kovalyov, the Agency is currently working on the implementation of the National Action Plan for Renewable Energy for the period up to 2020, providing for the implementation of the complex of measures aimed at ensuring the share of energy from the renewable sources in final energy consumption in 2020 not less than 11%. This will significantly reduce the consumption of traditional energy resources in all sectors of the national economy of Ukraine and, accordingly, increase the energy security of the state.

Where there is demand, there will be supply, so the European suppliers of equipment and technology, as well as investors are actively cultivating the Ukrainian market of alternative energy.

One of these companies is German Energy Invest Group, founded in 2013 and being in fact the union of companies whose principal activities are the following: production of biogas and fuel systems; construction of energy complexes; design and production of the equipment for sewage water treatment facilities; construction of livestock farms, storage facilities and integrated storages; production of solar thermal collectors, panels and equipment to produce biomass briquettes and pellets; energy rehabilitation of buildings.

On June, 12 President of the Kherson CCI Viktoriya Ostroumova met the representatives of Energy Invest Group – Ms. Irina Bugrova and the manager of the Alternative Energy Development GmbH Company Mr. Heinz Pfeiffer.

The parties discussed the projects proposed by Energy Invest Group for their implementation in Ukraine, as well as the potential of development of renewable energy technologies in the industrial and the public sectors.
